WHO WE ARE...
We are an Evangelical Community Church Centre in the multi-cultural area called Kingstanding, 5 miles from the Birmingham City Centre. The needs of the area are many and varied with a high degree of families that are both disfunctional & deprived. We have high unemployment in the area, low educational attainment, high crime, drug addiction and truancy.
Many of the people are living in socially deprived conditions. We have a high teenage pregnancy ratio, with one of the highest percentages of teenage pregnancies in the borough, and within the Oscott ward we have one of the highest percentages of elderly people. Racism is also a problem.
As a church centre we endeavour to promote the physical, social and spiritual benefit of the inhabitants of the Kingstanding area and the neighbouring localities, without distinction of age, sex or ethnic background by associating with the local authorities, voluntary organisations and inhabitants in a common effort to advance Christian and health education. We wish to provide facilities in the interests of social welfare for recreation and leisure time occupation with the object of improving the conditions of life for the said inhabitants.
We endeavour to make a difference, the difference that we want to make in Kingstanding is to make our community a better, safer place, where there are a number of activities going on that are able to meet all age groups. We will achieve this by continuing to provide activities for both the young and the old. In doing this we will get more and more young people off the street and give them a purpose for living and through what we do we will teach them to have respect for themselves and those around them.
We believe we are the right people to do the work, because we have a large group of volunteers (150 plus) that are committed to the vision, we love the people and the community we serve. Over many years now we have proved that we are in this work for the long term through both the highs and the lows, and whilst other organisations are having, to pull their services for one reason or another we are seeking to provide more services for the community. We can achieve it with the right help and make even more impact on the local deprived area than we are doing at the moment.
